Former Information Minister and Member of Parliament, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has expressed concern over recent disasters affecting parts of the country, including the building collapse at Adenta, as well as fire and flood incidents.

In a social media post, he said his thoughts and prayers were with victims and affected families, calling for strength and comfort for those going through the difficult period.

Beyond the condolences, he stressed the need for stronger policy attention and investment in emergency preparedness and response systems.

He noted that while communities continue to face recurring disasters, there is a growing responsibility on leadership to ensure better funding and management of safety interventions to protect lives and property.

His comments come in the wake of ongoing rescue and recovery operations at Adenta New Site, where emergency teams are still responding to the aftermath of the building collapse, alongside other fire and flood incidents reported in parts of the country.

At the Adenta New Site building collapse, at least five persons were rescued from the rubble and rushed to medical facilities for treatment, while others remain under observation. Authorities are still working to establish whether any persons remain trapped as recovery and assessment operations continue.

In separate incidents, flooding in parts of Accra and other regions have also been recorded, while fire has ravaged the Accra Central Police Barracks and adjoining properties.

The recurring nature of such incidents, according to Oppong Nkrumah, highlights gaps in preparedness that must be urgently addressed to give citizens greater safety and peace of mind.
