Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa has announced the second batch of Ghanaian nationals scheduled to return home on Sunday, June 7, 2026, under the ongoing voluntary evacuation programme.
The latest development follows the temporary suspension of registrations to enable officials to process and verify the large number of applications received from Ghanaians seeking to return home.
In a notice issued to the Ghanaian community in South Africa, the High Commission outlined key arrangements for applicants whose requests have been approved.
According to the mission, all approved evacuees due to travel on June 7 must report to the High Commission on the evening of Saturday, June 6, for verification, briefing and other pre-departure procedures.
The High Commission also appealed to individuals whose names appear on the approved list but no longer intend to travel to inform the mission by noon on Thursday, June 4. It said this would create an opportunity for other eligible applicants to be considered for inclusion on the flight.
Under the travel guidelines, each passenger will be permitted to check in two bags, with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms per bag. Any luggage exceeding the stipulated limit will not be accepted.
Parents and guardians travelling with children have been advised to carry all required travel documents, including consent letters where necessary, Road-to-Health cards and child weighing cards.
The mission further disclosed that travellers issued with Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) will receive the documents at the airport on the day of departure.
Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria is coordinating the voluntary evacuation exercise in collaboration with relevant authorities as efforts continue to support Ghanaian nationals who have chosen to return home from South Africa.
