Ghana’s Black Maidens moved a step closer to securing a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after recording a dominant 6-0 victory over Liberia in the first leg of their qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts produced a commanding display from start to finish, overwhelming Liberia with relentless attacking pressure and turning the encounter into a one-sided affair.
Despite Ghana’s early dominance, the breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute when Daniella Abass opened the scoring to hand the Black Maidens a deserved lead heading into the break.
The hosts returned for the second half with renewed intensity and quickly tightened their grip on the contest. Seidatu Wahab doubled Ghana’s advantage from the penalty spot before Linda Achiaa added a third as the Liberian defence struggled to cope with the Black Maidens’ pace and movement.
Ghana’s attacking momentum continued to gather steam as Jessica Appiah struck in the 60th minute to make it 4-0 and place the outcome beyond doubt.
Priscilla Mensah further extended the lead in the 73rd minute, while Mavis Yeboah completed the emphatic victory with a late goal to cap an impressive team performance.
The Black Maidens combined sharp finishing with disciplined defending and effective midfield control, leaving Liberia with few answers throughout the match.
The comprehensive victory gives Ghana a significant advantage ahead of next week’s second leg and places the Black Maidens firmly on course for progression to the next stage of the qualifiers
