Carlos Queiroz says he is ready to harness the confidence and personalities within the Black Stars squad as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese trainer, who was appointed in April 2026 to replace Otto Addo after a series of disappointing results, believes strong personalities in the dressing room can become an advantage rather than a problem.
Speaking on the Ghana Football Association’s Beyond the Whistle podcast, Queiroz stressed that his mission is to ensure every player channels personal ambition toward the success of the national team.
According to the experienced coach, self-belief and confidence are essential qualities for competing against the world’s best sides on football’s biggest stage.
“Tell me one thing: you have your ego, I have my ego, and everybody has egos in life. The problem is not to have egos, it’s just to put the egos at the service of the national team,” Queiroz said.
“And I am very much confident, I saw the games, the players from Ghana, they do that, they commit themselves.
“Sometimes we don’t win, sometimes it’s not possible, other things, but it’s not the issue of the egos. So I love to work with egos,” he added.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, have been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, Queiroz’s side is scheduled to play international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
