With less than a month to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, corporate Ghana has intensified its financial support for the Black Stars World Cup Fund, with several major institutions honouring pledges and announcing new donations to strengthen the team’s preparations.

Ghana Gas Limited led the latest round of contributions, redeeming a pledge of GH¢5 million to support the national team’s build-up to the global showpiece.

Ecobank Ghana Limited followed with GH¢3 million, while Zijin Golden Ridge Limited donated GH¢1.13 million. Absa Bank also contributed GH¢1 million, and OmniBSIC Bank added GH¢250,000 in a symbolic presentation.

The donations were received at the Ministry of Finance in Accra by Deputy Finance Minister and Chairman of the Black Stars World Cup Fundraising Committee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

He expressed appreciation to the donors, describing their support as a strong vote of confidence in the national team, and urged other organisations yet to fulfil their pledges to do so promptly. He also encouraged further contributions as the fundraising drive approaches its deadline.

The latest inflows form part of a broader initiative launched in March by President John Dramani Mahama, which seeks to raise US$30 million from corporate Ghana and the public to boost preparations for the 2026 tournament.

The Ministry of Finance says it will continue to receive pledges and donations every Thursday as part of the ongoing drive.

Ghana, set for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico and Wales.
