The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region and the Agona West Constituency have given the Ghana Police Service and the government a 24-hour ultimatum to produce their Constituency Organiser, David Essandoh, popularly known as Sam Toys, following his arrest at Agona Swedru.

According to the party, the organiser was picked up by heavily armed security personnel after allegedly criticising President John Dramani Mahama over the return of “dumsor” on social media.

A team of masked security officers on Monday evening stormed Agona Swedru in what party members described as a “Rambo-style” operation and arrested Mr Essandoh after he reportedly made a Facebook post about the power outages.

Addressing a press conference at the NPP office in Agona Swedru, Central Regional Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the inability of the party and family to trace Mr Essandoh’s whereabouts.

He said the party expects the police and government to produce the organiser within 24 hours.

“We are giving the police and the government 24 hours to tell us where Sam Toys is and ensure his release,” he stated.

The party leadership described the arrest as troubling and questioned why a citizen would be picked up over comments on a matter they say affects many Ghanaians.

The NPP executives further warned that they would take additional action if the organiser is not produced within the stated period.
