The Adele Traditional Council, led by the Okyeampanyi of Dadiase, Nana Akamani, has released parcels of land for the construction of an additional market in the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region.

The proposed market site is located around the Customs Barrier along the Nkwanta–Brewaniase road.

Traditional authorities believe the development will open up the area for expanded commercial activity, improve trading opportunities for residents, and create a more vibrant space for business growth in the municipality.

Speaking to Adom News, Nana Akamani explained that the decision to introduce an additional market day is largely driven by the increasing demand for goods and services in Nkwanta and surrounding communities.

He noted that the establishment of an additional market is expected to complement government efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation and support development planning.

Currently, Monday remains the main market day in the municipal capital.

However, market activities have been disrupted in recent times due to security concerns, including sporadic shootings on some market days. These disturbances, he said, have affected efforts by the Assembly to maximise internally generated funds needed to drive development.

Nana Akamani emphasised that the additional market, when fully operational, will help boost economic activity, attract traders, and expand access to essential goods.

He further appealed to government to consider siting the proposed 24-hour market project at the newly earmarked location to augment ongoing efforts and ensure the area benefits from broader commercial infrastructure.

He also called on individuals, businesses, and other stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that community-backed development remains key to sustaining progress and improving livelihoods.

Meanwhile, leadership of a youth group led by Charles Sunkwa commended the chiefs for making land available for the project.

He said the additional market day will create more room for businesses to thrive and provide traders and residents with improved options beyond the existing Monday market.

Charles Sunkwa recalled that a Thursday market initiative had previously been introduced under former Municipal Chief Executive Felix Owusu-Gyimah, but faced setbacks due to attacks and killings linked to ongoing conflict in parts of the area.

Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that with support from individuals, corporate institutions, and the Municipal Assembly, the new market initiative can be successfully revived and sustained.

Other residents and stakeholders also echoed the importance of establishing the additional market, describing it as a timely intervention to stimulate commerce, improve revenue generation, and drive development in Nkwanta South.
