Thomas Partey is expected to leave Villarreal CF at the end of the season after the club reportedly decided against activating the extension clause in his contract.
Partey joined the Spanish side last summer after his contract with Arsenal F.C. expired, signing a one-year deal with an option for an additional season.
The 31-year-old has endured a difficult campaign, struggling to cement a regular place in the squad due partly to minor injury setbacks.
Despite featuring in 30 matches across all competitions, the Ghana international has not established himself as a key figure in the team.
With the season nearing its conclusion, Villarreal are understood to have opted against triggering the optional one-year extension in Partey’s contract, paving the way for his departure.
Should the move materialise, the former Atlético Madrid midfielder will become a free agent ahead of the next transfer window.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club future, Partey is still expected to be included in Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
