A fierce fire outbreak has destroyed a warehouse and large quantities of pharmaceutical products belonging to Poku Pharma Company Limited at Fumesua.

The incident triggered a major firefighting operation by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to the GNFS, the distress call was received at about 7:57 p.m., with the first fire crew from the KNUST Fire Station arriving at the scene at 8:15 p.m. to find the fire rapidly spreading through the warehouse.

Two additional fire engines from the Asokore Mampong Fire Station and the Regional Headquarters Substation were later deployed to support efforts to contain the blaze.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 9:50 p.m., but due to the heavy fuel load within the warehouse, final extinguishing operations continued until 7:17 a.m. on Tuesday.

The warehouse and its contents, including assorted drugs, were completely destroyed by the fire.

However, firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to two adjoining storey buildings, an accounts office and some raw materials meant for production.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, Peter Tetteh, together with other senior officers, supervised the operation at the scene.

The GNFS commended its personnel for their swift response and professionalism in containing the fire and preventing further destruction.
