Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah has expressed doubts about the preparedness and quality of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will compete at the global tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico later this summer.

As part of preparations, the Ghana national football team are scheduled to face Mexico on May 22 in an international friendly before taking on Wales on June 2.

After securing qualification to the Mundial, Ghana endured a difficult March international window, suffering consecutive defeats against Austria and Germany.

Speaking in an interview with LUV FM, Mensah questioned whether the team is adequately prepared to compete against the world’s best nations.

“But are the players good enough? Have they been well prepared? Are they stable? Are they demoralised by what’s going on? What is the leadership team and the team like?”

He further raised concerns about the internal structure and leadership within the national team setup.

“How does it really work within the caucus group of the Black Stars, and whether the management team themselves are okay… and there’s a lot of self-examination,” added Herbert Mensah.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
