Residents of Akyem Asiakwa Suponmu in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region are calling on the Assembly and local authorities to urgently construct a proper drainage system to prevent future flooding disasters in the community.

According to the residents, the area has become highly prone to flooding due to inadequate drainage infrastructure, putting lives and properties at risk anytime there is heavy rainfall.

They explained that the situation has worsened over the years, with rainwater frequently flooding homes and roads, disrupting daily activities and creating fear among community members during the rainy season.

The residents warned that failure by authorities to address the drainage problem could lead to severe flooding and extensive destruction in the future.

They have therefore appealed to the municipal and local authorities to take immediate steps to improve the drainage system and safeguard the community from potential disasters.

Meanwhile, philanthropist and native of Akyem Asiakwa Suponmu, Oscar Kwabena Yeboah, who has personally funded the construction of part of the drainage system, has also appealed to the Assembly to prioritise the project.

Speaking to Adom News, he urged authorities to allocate resources towards the construction and maintenance of an effective drainage network to protect lives and property in the area.
