A 26-year-old miner, identified as Peter Okyere, is receiving treatment after allegedly attacking his landlord and later mutilating himself at Wassa Kyeikrom.

The incident, which has left residents in shock, reportedly occurred after the young miner allegedly stormed his landlord’s room wielding a metal object and behaving strangely.

Peter Okyere, who is originally from Nyinahin but had been staying at Kyeikrom for about two months to engage in mining activities, is currently on admission at Green Shield Hospital with support from the Wassa Dominase Police Command.

Speaking to the media, the landlord, Yaw Anaafi, said the miner had lived peacefully with his colleagues since moving into the community and had never exhibited violent behaviour or signs of substance abuse.

According to him, the incident took a disturbing turn when Peter Okyere suddenly entered his room carrying a metal object and began asking unusual questions about how to make money while lamenting hardships following the death of his father.

Yaw Anaafi explained that during the confrontation, a neighbour intervened and helped him escape the situation.

He added that shortly afterwards, the victim reportedly returned to his room where he allegedly mutilated himself.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Peter Okyere denied being under the influence of alcohol, tramadol, marijuana, or any hard substance at the time of the incident.

He claimed he suddenly felt compelled to approach his landlord for guidance on how to make money, a situation he said eventually resulted in the unfortunate incident.

The victim appealed to the public for support, saying he is currently in severe pain and emotional distress.

Meanwhile, investigations into the incident are ongoing.
