Four candidates sitting the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Accra Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) have been caught for alleged examination malpractice.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the third day of the nationwide examination, when officials from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) visited the centre as part of a monitoring exercise.
The WAEC National Head, Dr. Rosemond Wilson, led the team on a tour of selected examination centres in Accra when the four candidates were identified engaging in alleged cheating.
Adom News’ Kodwo Mensah Aboroampa, who was with the monitoring team, reported that the candidates have since been made to sign malpractice forms—a process that initiates formal investigations into the incident.
The development adds to growing concerns about examination malpractice in this year’s BECE, which began earlier this week and is expected to end on May 11.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against cheating, stressing that candidates found culpable risk having their results cancelled. Teachers, invigilators, and supervisors who aid or overlook malpractice also face sanctions, including dismissal and possible prosecution.
To curb the menace, WAEC, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and security agencies, has intensified monitoring at examination centres nationwide. Measures include unannounced visits, strict supervision, and enhanced reporting systems.
Authorities have assured the public that all reported cases will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with in accordance with established regulations.
