Six players from the Ghana Premier League have been handed opportunities in the Black Stars’ 23-man squad for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will face the North American side on Friday, May 22, 2026, in a key build-up fixture designed to sharpen the team ahead of the global tournament.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has included a strong domestic contingent, rewarding standout performances in the local league with national team recognition. The six Ghana-based players named in the squad are Solomon Agbasi (Hearts of Oak), Gidios Aseako (Dreams FC), Ebenezer Adade (Dreams FC), Razak Simpson (Nations FC), Ebenezer Abban (Heart of Lions), and Salim Adams (Medeama SC).

The inclusion of these players highlights the technical team’s continued effort to blend local talent with foreign-based professionals as Ghana fine-tunes its World Cup squad.

Following the clash with Mexico, the Black Stars will take on Wales on June 2 in their final preparatory match before the tournament begins.

Ghana are set for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. They have been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Their campaign kicks off on June 17 against Panama, before a high-profile meeting with England on June 23, and a final group game against Croatia on June 27.
