The Ghana Football Association is set for a significant financial boost ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup participation, following an increase in tournament-related funding announced by FIFA.

Football’s world governing body has confirmed that close to $900 million will be distributed among the 48 participating nations at the expanded tournament, with the total allocation now rising to $871 million after a 15 percent increase driven by strong commercial revenues.

The decision was approved at a FIFA Council meeting held in Vancouver on April 28, 2026—just 44 days before the start of the tournament.

For Ghana, the Black Stars will benefit directly from the revised structure, with preparation funding increasing from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. In addition, the team will receive a $10 million qualification bonus, alongside more than $16 million earmarked for travel, logistics and delegation expenses.

The enhanced package is expected to ease the financial demands of participating in a World Cup staged across multiple countries, while also strengthening preparations, player welfare and technical planning.

Beyond the senior national team, Ghana could also benefit indirectly through FIFA’s broader revenue distribution model, which supports all 211 member associations. This could translate into additional funding for grassroots development, infrastructure improvement and talent identification programmes.

The increased investment comes as FIFA prepares to stage its biggest and most commercially lucrative World Cup yet, featuring more teams, more matches and expanded revenue streams from broadcasting, sponsorship and ticketing.

On the pitch, Ghana Black Stars, set for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across host nations in North America.
