President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah, has confirmed that several efforts were made to convince Hohoe United to rescind their decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League, but the club had already settled on leaving the competition.
Hohoe United announced their withdrawal from the ongoing 2025/26 season in April 2026, citing what they described as unfair treatment, poor officiating, and a three-match home ban imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The sanction followed disciplinary action linked to their controversial fixture against Vision FC, along with a financial penalty.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Mr Ansah said both GHALCA and key football authorities intervened in an attempt to resolve the dispute, but the club’s decision had already been taken internally.
“We did our best. Personally, I called almost everybody who matters in that team. I am aware the General Secretary and the FA President did the same,” he said.
“They had already concluded with their board that they were withdrawing from the league. We had little power to force them to stay on board. Everything we did to get them back on board did not work out,” Mr Ansah.
The development has intensified ongoing discussions about officiating standards, disciplinary procedures, and governance in the Ghana Premier League, with stakeholders renewing calls for reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the domestic competition.
Hohoe United’s withdrawal also adds to broader concerns about club sustainability and the league’s overall credibility.
