Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has confirmed that Ghana will host the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, adding that the country secured the rights without incurring any costs.

The tournament will return to Ghana for the first time since 1999, when the Black Satellites won the title on home soil in memorable fashion.

The 2027 edition will also coincide with Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary, giving the competition added national significance as part of the celebrations.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Adams said Ghana’s successful bid was achieved through the country’s strong football reputation and the influence of John Dramani Mahama.

“We have won the bid to host the U-20 AFCON, and we did not spend a penny,” he stated.

Hosting the tournament is expected to support youth football development, improve sporting infrastructure and generate economic activity through tourism and related sectors.

Confederation of African Football will work with the Ghana Football Association and a Local Organising Committee to ensure the successful delivery of the tournament.

The hosting rights further underline Ghana’s status as one of Africa’s leading football nations and a key centre for nurturing young talent.
