The National Identification Authority (NIA) has continued its ongoing Ghana Card registration exercise for children under 15 years, with the latest phase taking place at the Multimedia Group Limited.
The initiative, which began last week, forms part of preparations toward a major mass registration exercise expected to be rolled out in the Oti and Volta Regions.
Speaking during the exercise, an Operations Officer at the Head Office of the Authority, Steven Otubuo, said the team is using the institutional visits not only to register children but also to test the readiness of their systems and equipment.

According to him, the Authority has already carried out similar exercises at institutions including the Ministry of the Interior, Media General, and ICPS.
He explained that bringing the exercise to institutions makes it easier for parents to access the service without having to travel long distances.

Mr. Otubuo noted that the registration process has so far been smooth and seamless, with strong cooperation from parents.
“It’s been smooth and seamless. Parents are coming with their children and coordinating well with us,” he said.
He, however, mentioned some operational challenges, particularly with parents arriving later in the day due to their children being in school, which creates pressure on the team as they near closing hours.

The exercise is being conducted over two days at each location, with successful applicants receiving their Ghana Cards instantly.
Parents are required to present their Ghana Card along with the child’s birth certificate or passport to complete the registration process.

Mr. Otubuo emphasized that the registration is free and urged parents to take advantage of the opportunity.
“We expect parents to come in their numbers and come early so we can test the strength of our machines and systems,” he added.

He further highlighted the importance of the Ghana Card for children, noting that it serves as a key form of identification for accessing services such as health insurance, travel documentation, and other official purposes.
The Authority is yet to announce its next destination, as subsequent locations will depend on directives from the Head Office.
