The Assin South District Police have apprehended Prophet Mark Dzimah, the Founder and Leader of Christ Pentecostal Church, following allegations that he set fire to his former partner’s residence in Abura Kwaduagya.
The District Police Commander DSP Robert Kyeremeh confirmed that the investigation remains active. Prophet Dzimah has denied all allegations, but police officials state that he will be arraigned before a court once the inquiry is finalised.
A Relationship Turned Treacherous
The victim, 47-year-old seamstress Joyce Akomaning, shared a harrowing account of the events leading up to the disaster, despite having two children with the Prophet.
Ms. Akomaning stated she ended the relationship to escape persistent physical and emotional abuse. She believes the arson was a retaliatory act triggered by the breakup.
Devastating Losses:
The fire, which broke out around 9:00 p.m., destroyed Akomaning’s single-room home.
Witnesses reported that the Ghana National Fire Service arrived from Abura Dunkwa but was hindered by the narrow layout of the settlement, preventing them from saving the property.
Lost assets include:
- Three industrial sewing machines (her primary livelihood)
- Television sets and electronic appliances
- Unspecified amounts of cash
- Essential documents, travel papers, and school supplies for her children
“I have lost everything,” Akomaning lamented.
She and her children are currently displaced, relying on the charity of friends for shelter.
A Plea for Justice and Support:
Two months after the incident, the victim expressed frustration over the “slow pace” of the police proceedings. She is calling on the authorities to expedite the case to ensure she receives justice.
Furthermore, Madam Akomaning is appealing to the general public and humanitarian stakeholders for financial or material assistance to help her replace her sewing equipment and rebuild a life for her children.
The case is still under investigation whilst the suspect is on bail.
