The Minority in Parliament is calling for the swift passage of the anti-LGBTQ bill under a certificate of urgency when Parliament of Ghana resumes sittings in May.
Speaking during an engagement on the bill, a member of the Minority said Parliament has, in the past, passed several laws under urgency and argued that this particular bill also qualifies for similar consideration.
According to him, fast-tracking the bill would help bring closure to an issue that has remained in the public domain for a long time.
He noted that the committee handling the bill has the authority to recommend its passage under a certificate of urgency.
The Minority further expressed confidence that once the bill is passed, President John Dramani Mahama would assent to it on the same day for it to become law.
“This bill has been in the public space for a long time. Parliament should pass it under urgency so it can be assented to immediately,” he added.
