A member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Sarfo Oduro, has dismissed claims surrounding accommodation arrangements for the newly appointed Black Stars coach, Carlos Queiroz, describing the debate as unnecessary and misleading.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said the conversation has been driven by misinformation, insisting that many commentators lack full details about the facility in question.
“They have run out of conversations and have decided to come out with this flimsy story. All the journalists discussing this issue have no condition of release of that facility to the GFA,” he said.
He explained that the property being discussed was one of the government-confiscated houses allocated to the GFA, similar to its secretariat, and has since been renovated and regularised by the Association.
“It was one of the government-confiscated houses that was given to GFA. Just like our secretariat, it was a facility that was given to us and we paid to get it in our name. We renovated the facility and it became ours,” he noted.
According to him, the facility has previously housed some national team coaches, including Kwasi Appiah, although others such as Otto Addo opted for their own accommodation.
“Some of the coaches like Kwasi Appiah stayed there but I don’t know of any other person who went there. But someone like Otto Addo had his own facility so he didn’t stay there,” he added.
Mr. Oduro further explained that the GFA has continued to maintain the property, including paying utility bills, even when it was not in use, an arrangement he said made it impractical to leave the facility idle.
“If a house is empty, it develops defects. We had to be paying utility bills because we have registered with the companies,” he noted.
He revealed that the Association has since decided to repurpose part of the building to support its technical operations.
“We have a technical centre and needed a technical department as well, so if we had an empty space and it could be partitioned to house the technical department, why not? So we decided to move to the facility to put the house into use and serve the purpose,” he explained.
Touching on the new coach Carlos Queiroz’s arrival, he clarified that there are no immediate long-term accommodation plans, as the coach is expected in Ghana briefly for official engagements.
“He is coming for the unveiling and will be in the country for about three days for media engagements. It is not as if he is bringing all his things to stay at the moment. Should we leave the house like a traffic light in and out? We are reasonable people and a lot of thought goes into our decisions,” he stated.
He added that a permanent arrangement would only be made if the coach decides to reside in the country.
“Once the coach comes and says he wants to stay, we will make an arrangement. This is not even an issue for us to discuss,” he stressed.
Coach Queiroz is set to be officially unveiled today, April 23, 2026, as the GFA moves to begin a new chapter for the national team.
