Ghanaian rapper Medikal has explained why he takes the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) seriously, describing it as one of the biggest achievements in his career while reflecting on how past disappointments have shaped his journey.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Medikal addressed critics who question why artists make so much noise about the awards.

He said he often sees comments online suggesting that the TGMA is “just a Ghana award,” but he strongly disagrees with that perception.

According to him, the TGMA is as important to him as the GRAMMYs, the FIFA World Cup or the Ballon d’Or are on the global stage.

“TGMA means a lot to me. It’s my GRAMMYs, my FIFA World Cup, or the Ballon d’Or,” he said.

He stressed that his passion and strong advocacy are driven by his commitment to his fans and his craft.

Medikal also pointed out that some artists tend to downplay or snub award schemes, noting that over time, many of them lose relevance in the industry.

For him, taking the awards seriously is part of staying competitive, visible and connected to his audience.
