A major technical fault at the Ghana National Gas Company processing plant has led to a temporary reduction in gas supply to thermal power plants, resulting in power outages in parts of the country.
In a joint statement issued on April 15, 2026, the Ghana National Gas Company and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) said the disruption was caused by the failure of a critical component within the plant’s system.
According to the statement, the plant experienced a significant fault following the complete breakdown of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS).
Preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system has been severely damaged and will require full replacement.
The companies explained that the situation forced an emergency shutdown of the facility, leading to a temporary cut in gas supply to thermal plants and subsequent power supply interruptions in some areas.
They, however, assured the public that engineers are working around the clock to resolve the issue and restore operations as quickly as possible. They added that processes to resume operations will begin once technical assessments are completed.
