New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has pledged to rebuild and unite the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in a live interview as part of his engagement with delegates and stakeholders, the Ashanti Regional Chairman said his political journey has been shaped by resilience and a record of navigating difficult contests within the party.

“Trials have tested me, the NPP has trusted me, I am here to deliver results,” he said.

He reflected on his rise through the party ranks, noting that his leadership in the Ashanti Region has been sustained through three consecutive terms, which he attributed to grassroots support.

“I have never had the luxury of an easy election. Every battle has been hard fought. But those trials did not break me. They built me,” he said. “The grassroots made me. I owe them everything.”

Chairman Wontumi stressed that loyalty in politics must be demonstrated through actions rather than words, citing his support for the party’s leadership in previous elections.

“When the party chose Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I put personal preference aside and worked for victory. That is what loyalty looks like. Not in words, but in work,” he stated.

He argued that the party’s challenges are not about lack of competence, but the need for stronger organisational leadership focused on winning elections.

“We don’t need more polished English. We need a working chairman. The NPP has no shortage of elites and eloquent speakers. I am here to deliver results,” he said.

Outlining his vision if elected, he said his focus would be on strengthening internal unity, rebuilding grassroots structures, supporting young activists, and leading the party to victory in 2028 behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He also addressed ongoing legal matters involving him, saying they do not affect his ability to serve the party.

“Let me address the elephant in the room. My legal challenges do not disqualify me from serving. I respect the law. I believe in due process,” he said, adding that “history is full of leaders who were tried in the fire while serving their people. What matters is integrity. What matters is resilience. I have both.”

He maintained that his bid is driven by service rather than personal ambition, promising to be a hands-on leader who remains close to the grassroots.

“I’m not asking to be served. I’m asking to serve. I will be a working chairman. The kind who sleep in the constituencies and wake up with the grassroots,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi added that his leadership would focus on unity and discipline within the party as it positions itself for the next general election.
