Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has commended veteran lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata for his significant contributions to Ghana’s legal system, describing his work as instrumental in shaping legal thought and practice in the country.

She made the remarks at an honorary lecture and award ceremony held in his honour, noting that his career has been marked by scholarship, advocacy, and public service.

According to her, Mr Tsikata’s approach to law reflects a deep understanding of the profession as one that demands rigour, independence, and sound judgment.

“The law does not sustain itself. Constitutions do not enforce themselves. Institutions do not operate in a vacuum,” she said, stressing the critical role legal practitioners play in safeguarding democracy and ensuring accountability.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang added that Mr Tsikata has consistently engaged complex legal issues and contributed to strengthening legal debates in the country.

She further noted that the recognition of his achievements goes beyond celebrating an individual, highlighting the standards Ghana must uphold in its legal and democratic development.

The Vice President also urged law students to embrace discipline, courage, and a strong sense of purpose, emphasising that the future of Ghana’s institutions depends on the quality of its legal minds.
