The National Ambulance Service has partnered with Global Life Savers Inc. and the European Resuscitation Council to train police instructors in Basic Life Support as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response in Ghana.

The two-day intensive training, held at the FPU Fitness Center at the Tesano Police Depot, brought together over 40 Police Instructor Trainers from the National Formed Police Unit (FPU).

The programme, themed “Every Life is Worth Saving,” focused on equipping officers with practical, life-saving skills to improve response during emergencies.

Addressing participants, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the initiative reflects a shift in modern policing, where protecting lives and building public trust are as important as enforcing the law.

He noted that the Police Service is committed to strengthening collaboration with other national institutions to enhance public safety and professionalism.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ambulance Service, Paramedic Christina Achena said the partnership would help ensure faster and more effective emergency response, especially in critical situations where timely intervention is crucial.

Founder and President of Global Life Savers Inc., Selina Okyere, described the training as a step toward setting a new standard in emergency care, where survival should not depend on location.

Also speaking at the event, Samuel Hanu, representing the Mental Health Authority, highlighted the importance of supporting the mental and physical well-being of officers to enhance their effectiveness.

Participants were taken through hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), choking management, bleeding control, and other emergency techniques.

The trained instructors are expected to transfer the knowledge across the Police Service, contributing to improved national emergency preparedness.
