The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has denied claims that its Director-General requested a salary increase and a $6,000 monthly rent allowance.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Head of Corporate Affairs, Maame Kessewaa Dolphine, described the allegations as false, clarifying that the Director-General has not applied for any salary increment.

She explained that ongoing discussions relate to a broader review of conditions of service for all staff and management, not a specific request by the Director-General.

According to her, the current conditions of service, including rent allowance, date back to 2015 and apply to all eligible staff, adding that previous Director-Generals also benefited from the same provisions.

She further noted that although a proposal to review these conditions has been initiated, it is yet to be approved and is currently before the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for guidance.

Her comments follow allegations by Charles MacCarthy that the NLA boss had requested a significant salary increase and had already withdrawn a large rent allowance.

“The salary increment is usually led by the local union and key members of the executive management after negotiations, then it goes to the board for approval. This year, no salary increase has been granted. The board approval on the salary increment we have been working with was signed in 2015,” she said.

She added: “A proposal to review the conditions of service has been made, but the board advised that we compare with other state institutions, and the Public Services Commission further advised that we seek guidance from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. The proposal is currently with the Fair Wages Commission, and we are awaiting feedback.”
