The National Film Authority (NFA) has embarked on a strategic assessment of some dormant cinema facilities in Accra as part of efforts to revive Ghana’s cinema culture and reposition the spaces for modern entertainment use.

The exercise was led by Executive Secretary Kafui Danku-Pitcher and Deputy Executive Secretary James Gardiner, together with members of the Authority’s management team.

The delegation visited several former cinema houses, including the Roxy Cinema in Adabraka, Rex Cinema, and the Orion Cinema at Circle, all of which once played key roles as vibrant cultural and entertainment centres in Accra.

According to the Authority, the tour was aimed at assessing the current structural and operational condition of the facilities, as well as identifying practical pathways for their rehabilitation.

Officials explained that the broader objective is to restore and reimagine these spaces into modern, sustainable cinemas that can support the growth of Ghana’s creative industry while also generating viable revenue streams.

The NFA further indicated that the initiative forms part of a long-term strategic agenda to rebuild cinema culture in the country and create attractive investment opportunities within the sector.

It also called on private investors and industry stakeholders to collaborate in the redevelopment process, stressing that sustainable partnerships would be critical to transforming the facilities into functional and commercially viable entertainment hubs once again.
