Ghana has been named by France as the first country to benefit from its newly introduced National Health Compact, following high-level discussions between President John Dramani Mahama and President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 8, by President Macron after bilateral talks with President Mahama during his state visit to France.

The meeting formed part of wider engagements between the two leaders, touching on key sectors such as health, agriculture, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, regional security, and Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery efforts.
Central to the discussions was the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway, identified as a major infrastructure project that would require close collaboration between the two countries.
President Macron also highlighted the importance of the Accra Reset Initiative being advanced by President Mahama, indicating that it has attracted considerable attention during recent international engagements.

Earlier, President Mahama was given a full state welcome with military honours at Les Invalides ahead of his official talks with the French leader. The ceremony, marked by precision and tradition, underscored the long-standing diplomatic ties between Ghana and France.
During the visit, President Mahama also met with Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate, where both sides discussed ways to deepen trade and investment relations, strengthen regional security, and enhance cooperation in combating terrorism.

Support from France in areas such as maternal health and agriculture was also discussed, alongside Ghana’s improving economic outlook.
President Mahama was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France Mavis Ama Frimpong.
