The Asante Akyem North Municipal Health Directorate, in collaboration with the Police, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the Municipal Assembly, has destroyed a quantity of unapproved and illicit drugs seized within the municipality.
The exercise followed a series of anti-drug operations conducted across various communities in the area.
Items confiscated included tramadol, codeine-based products, aphrodisiacs and other unregistered pharmaceutical substances believed to be in circulation without proper authorization.
Speaking to Adom News, the Municipal Health Director, Ronald Miah, explained that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the sale and distribution of unauthorized drugs.

He noted that the destruction process was carried out in accordance with established public health and safety procedures to ensure the items were disposed of appropriately.
Mr. Miah stressed that the Directorate remains committed to protecting residents from the harmful effects of unregulated drug use and warned individuals engaged in the illegal sale of pharmaceuticals to desist.
Also addressing Adom News, the Municipal Chief Executive, Sarah Amoakoaa, said the Assembly has made steady progress in the fight against the use of unapproved drugs, particularly among young people in the municipality.
She reaffirmed the Assembly’s resolve to intensify monitoring and enforcement to safeguard public health.
Authorities say the joint operation signals a renewed crackdown on the growing concern over substance misuse in the area.
