A 35-year-old Ghanaian man living in the United States, Patrick Sarpong, has died in a tragic road accident after he was struck by a tractor-trailer while clearing snow off his car along a major highway in Massachusetts.

The fatal incident occurred late Monday night, February 23, 2026, along the Massachusetts Turnpike near Hopkinton, as the region battled severe winter weather conditions brought on by a powerful blizzard.

According to authorities, Sarpong had reportedly finished work and was returning home when he pulled over around 11:15 p.m. to remove snow that had accumulated on his vehicle. While he was outside the car clearing the snow, a passing tractor-trailer struck him.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but Sarpong was pronounced dead shortly after the collision due to the severity of his injuries. His body was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel officially confirmed his death.

Officials from the Massachusetts State Police confirmed that Hopkinton was not under any travel restrictions at the time of the incident, despite the blizzard conditions. Sergeant Gregory Jones stated that the highway remained open to traffic, and motorists were permitted to travel.

Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, including visibility conditions, driver response, and whether weather-related factors contributed to the fatal collision.

Police say further updates will be provided as investigations continue into the incident.
