The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Kalala Nyamekye, has refuted social media and news reports claiming that a student died following a clash between Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH) and Agona Swedru School of Business during the inter-school athletics competition.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Nyamekye confirmed that three OSTECH students sustained injuries and are receiving treatment, including one who was admitted to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for internal bleeding.
He emphasized that, contrary to circulating rumours, no fatalities have occurred.
Mr. Nyamekye stated that the Education Director has scheduled a meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, to announce decisions regarding the next steps.
The DCE also indicated that arrests have been made in connection with the incident, although the Regional Police Command has yet to confirm details. Investigations into the clash are ongoing as authorities work to restore order and ensure the safety of students during the competition.
The confrontation involved students from OSTECH and SWESBUS, escalating quickly into a physical fight. During the unrest, an OSTECH student was allegedly attacked by a group believed to be affiliated with SWESBUS, reportedly beaten with sticks and pelted with stones before bystanders intervened to bring the situation under control.
Footage circulating on social media captures the confusion at the scene, showing a crowd gathered around the injured student in the aftermath of the clash.
