National Investment Bank (NIB) PLC has donated GH¢1 million to support a housing redevelopment project for the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp, reaffirming its long-standing partnership with the military while outlining plans to strengthen its operations.

The pledge was announced at a brief ceremony, where NIB Managing Director, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, described the contribution as seed funding for the Armed Forces’ accommodation initiative.

He highlighted the enduring relationship between the bank and the military, noting that the Armed Forces maintained confidence in NIB even during its recent financial restructuring.

“Your continued confidence in us, especially during the difficult restructuring years, demonstrated institutional loyalty and trust,” Dr. Zakaria said.

He explained that the strategic importance of the housing project informed the bank’s decision to provide financial backing.

Dr. Zakaria further disclosed that NIB is undertaking reforms under the guidance of its main shareholder, the government, including plans to float shares to strengthen its capital base and ensure long-term sustainability.

To enhance engagement with military personnel, he announced that the bank’s board has approved the establishment of a dedicated branch at Burma Camp before the end of the year to improve access to banking services and promote financial inclusion within the barracks.

Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, expressed appreciation for the donation and commended NIB’s recent turnaround.

He noted that accommodation remains a major challenge for the Armed Forces and revealed that the government has approved the construction of 10,000 housing units nationwide over the next five years.

Under the redevelopment plan, the military intends to deliver 250 new housing units at Burma Camp. Lt. Gen. Agyapong also announced that a formal launch and fundraising event for the project is scheduled for April 18, 2026, and invited corporate organisations, including NIB, to lend their support.

The ceremony concluded with an exchange of honours, as NIB presented a citation to the Defence Chief, who in turn awarded Dr. Zakaria a military plaque in recognition of his leadership during the bank’s reform process.
