The children’s ward of the Assemblies of God (AG) Hospital in Saboba Township was gutted by fire on Sunday evening, leaving ten rooms damaged but fortunately sparing lives.

The blaze reportedly began around 5:12 p.m., causing panic among staff and patients. Firefighters from the Saboba District Fire Station, assisted by nearby residents, contained the fire by 7:10 p.m. and fully extinguished it by 7:25 p.m.

No casualties were recorded. However, hospital officials confirmed that medical equipment, computers, and personal protective gear were damaged, though some items were salvaged.

Staff described the incident as a close call, praising the swift response and community support that prevented further destruction.

The fire has sparked concerns over fire safety protocols in local health facilities, prompting hospital management to review emergency measures. Residents and staff are calling on authorities to invest in proper fire prevention infrastructure for healthcare institutions in the district.
