Interim head coach Yaw Prince Owusu has described Asante Kotoko’s hard-fought away victory over Young Apostles FC as both a personal breakthrough and a timely boost for his side.
The Porcupine Warriors travelled to Wenchi under intense scrutiny following a damaging 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium — a result that had threatened to dent their title ambitions.
Determined to respond, Kotoko delivered when it mattered. Goals from Johnson Oppong Owusu and Samba O’Neil ensured a crucial 2-0 win at the Wenchi Stadium, restoring belief within the squad and easing mounting pressure in recent days.
Speaking after the game, Owusu expressed his relief and satisfaction.
“It means a lot to me. This is my first win, and it makes people recognise what I can do,” he said.
The interim coach admitted the pressure was evident ahead of the game, especially after the Super Clash defeat.
“Yes, there was pressure. The players felt it themselves. So we spoke to them and asked them to put the pressure behind them and focus on how we wanted to play.
“They listened, and it worked perfectly for us today. Once we scored the two goals, everything became clear in our performance.
“So we are okay with it,” he added.
The victory lifts Kotoko to fourth place on the league table with 38 points. They will aim to build on the momentum when they host Vision FC in their Matchday 24 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium.
