Full statement from Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, MP:
“An annual sports festival that was meant to foster unity and showcase sporting talent turned into something else. Videos have gone viral, but I wish to assure the school authorities, parents, students, and the general public that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has called the authorities, and investigations are underway.
Incident: Students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School in the Awutu Senya West constituency and Swedru School of Business in the Agona West constituency were involved in a rivalry and fights, which caused some students to be injured.
Actions taken: I have engaged the DG of the Ghana Education Service, our DCE of Awutu Senya District, the District Education Office, the headmistress of OSTECH, and some senior citizens. I have also engaged my colleague MP, Hon. Ernestina Dangbey, and we have had discussions.
I will be at the school tomorrow during the sod-cutting ceremony for two new dormitory blocks to ease the pressure on accommodation, meet staff and students, and assure them of efforts being made for their safety and to ensure this does not happen again.
Sad to see sports turn out this way.
Thank you.
