The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has extended warm wishes to Christians across the country as they begin the 2026 Lenten season, calling for deep reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to faith and service.
In a message to mark the commencement of Lent on February 18, 2026, the minister described the season as a sacred period that invites believers to draw closer to God, embrace humility, and strengthen their dedication to love and service.
He noted that the forty-day observance serves as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and encourages virtues such as compassion, forgiveness, and selflessness. He urged Christians to let their fasting inspire discipline, their prayers deepen their faith, and their charitable acts bring hope to the vulnerable.
The minister further emphasized that true worship should not only be expressed in words but also demonstrated through actions that promote justice, peace, and harmony within communities.
