Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has applauded Antoine Semenyo for settling swiftly into life at the Etihad following his January switch.

The 26-year-old forward arrived from AFC Bournemouth during the winter transfer window and has made an immediate impression, registering five goals and two assists in just nine appearances.

Addressing reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, Guardiola highlighted the qualities the Ghana international has injected into his side.

“It’s not just scoring a lot of goals,” the Spanish gaffer said.

“The strikers and the players who play up front are so important. Not just that.

“Makes a special rhythm, his versatility to play many positions up front and in the three positions.

“We knew it and come from Bournemouth, they are exceptional in the rhythm and defensively, and he has it in his DNA. His impact has been really good.

“The guys who came adapt quickly because the guys here for a long time embrace them so quickly,” he added.

Semenyo had already established himself as one of the league’s standout performers in the first half of the season at Bournemouth before earning his move to City.

He is expected to feature when Newcastle United travel to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
