A fire broke out at the Agatex Paint Factory in Tsawenu near Ho in the Volta Region, destroying two vehicles and quantities of stored chemicals.

The incident occurred late Sunday morning, February 16, at the factory premises, which had reportedly been non-operational for nearly four years.

Firefighters responded shortly after receiving a distress call and brought the blaze under control within about three hours. Full extinguishing operations were completed later in the afternoon, preventing the fire from spreading to critical production equipment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started in the factory’s chemical storage area before spreading to sections of the roof and walls of the building.

Two vehicles—a pick-up truck and a saloon car—parked within the compound were completely destroyed by the flames. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities noted that the timely intervention helped confine the fire to limited sections of the facility, averting what could have been a far more devastating industrial disaster.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. The incident has also renewed calls for stricter safety measures at idle industrial facilities, particularly those storing hazardous materials such as chemicals, which pose significant fire risks if not properly managed.
