Residents of Asuboa-Nima, a suburb of Akyem Asuboa in the Asene-Manso-Akroso District of the Eastern Region, are urging the government to urgently dredge the Asuakoa River and construct a bridge to address persistent flooding in the area.
According to the residents, frequent overflow of the river has destroyed homes and disrupted livelihoods, making life increasingly difficult for the community. They say the absence of a bridge also makes crossing the river dangerous, especially during the rainy season.
Speaking to Adom News, some residents explained that dredging the river would help reduce the risk of flooding, while a bridge would ensure safe and easy movement for both residents and traders.
“The river has become a serious problem for us. When it rains heavily, our homes are flooded and movement becomes difficult. We need a bridge, and dredging will also help prevent future disasters,” a resident said.
The Assembly Member for the Akyem Asuboa Electoral Area, Martin Tebiri, supported the residents’ concerns and appealed to the Asene-Manso-Akroso District Assembly to prioritise the dredging of the Asuakoa River.
He also called for the rehabilitation of town roads and the provision of a proper layout to help prevent future flooding and related disasters.
Residents say they hope authorities will respond swiftly to provide a lasting solution to the recurring problem.
