Two people have died and more than ten others sustained injuries after a church bus rammed into a crowd taking part in a street float at Assin Dansame in the early hours of January 1, 2026.
The bus, which was carrying members of the Second Chance Ministry, was returning from a 31st Night crossover service in Kumasi to Breman Anwhiem in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District when the incident occurred.
The deceased, identified as a 21-year-old apprentice and a student of Sunyani Technical University, reportedly died on the spot.
Those injured were rushed to various hospitals in the region for medical treatment.
The accident triggered outrage among residents, with some youth vandalising the bus before police intervened to restore calm.
Confirming the incident, the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, said investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
