The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called on Ghanaians to embrace patriotism in their daily lives as a key driver of national development from 2026 onwards.

According to the Minister, patriotism has been a defining factor behind the success of many developed countries, where strong national pride, responsibility and commitment to the collective good have accelerated growth and progress.

Mr. Ibrahim noted that Ghana can also achieve sustainable development if citizens place national interest above personal gain and demonstrate patriotism in their workplaces, communities and public life.

He therefore urged citizens, traditional authorities, religious leaders and public servants to lead by example, stressing that a renewed sense of patriotism from 2026 would significantly contribute to the country’s socio-economic transformation.

The Minister made the call on December 31, 2025, while addressing congregants during end-of-year church services. In his role overseeing religious affairs, he visited several churches to share the message.

Meanwhile, the Right Reverend Godson Amankwaa Amponsah, Bishop of the Wenchi Methodist Diocese, said 2026 could mark a turning point for Ghana if citizens deliberately change their attitudes and behaviours towards work and national development.

He encouraged Ghanaians to adopt a culture of self-improvement and resilience, urging individuals to acquire additional vocational or entrepreneurial skills alongside their primary occupations to improve their standard of living.

According to the Bishop, discipline, hard work and multiple sources of livelihood would not only empower individuals economically but also contribute significantly to national development.
