Security agencies have arrested 141 suspected cybercrime operatives following a coordinated early-morning operation in parts of Accra.

The intelligence-led exercise was carried out on Saturday, December 27, 2025, by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The operation targeted organised cybercrime syndicates operating in Tabora and Lashibi and believed to be involved in a range of cyber-enabled financial crimes, including Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams.

In Tabora, 100 suspects were arrested, while an additional 41 were picked up in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141. Preliminary investigations indicate that most of the suspects are Nigerian nationals.

Security operatives also seized items believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes, including 38 laptop computers and about 150 mobile phones.

The devices are currently undergoing forensic analysis to establish their exact use and linkages to reported cyber fraud cases.

In a related development, a Ghanaian landlord was arrested for allegedly harbouring about 100 of the suspects in his residence.

Authorities say landlords have a responsibility to ensure their properties are not used for criminal activities.

The Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Sam George confirmed the development in a post on Facebook.

He stated that the suspects are believed to be linked to several forms of cybercrime, including romance scams, sextortion, wire fraud, MoMo fraud, and Business Email Compromise schemes that target individuals and businesses.

Investigations are ongoing, and officials say suspects found culpable will be processed in line with Ghanaian law.

The Minister urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious digital activity, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against cybercrime.

While reiterating that Ghana remains open to foreigners engaged in legitimate business, he warned that individuals who exploit digital platforms to commit crimes will be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted decisively.
