LA Galaxy forward Joseph Paintsil believes the Black Stars have the quality and depth required to progress beyond the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece after qualifying for the tournament despite missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia for the competition, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

After suffering group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, Paintsil is confident the current squad can turn the tide.

“We have good players and a higher chance of qualifying for the next round if we do well. It all depends on the players and management coming together as a team to deliver for the country,” he told Citi Sports.

“Sometimes you don’t have to talk about it; you just have to know this is the job we have to do. We must give everything we have for Ghanaians and for the badge,” he added.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England on June 23 in Boston, before concluding the group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
