Residents in several parts of Accra are expected to experience a temporary disruption in water supply today, Friday, December 19, 2025, following scheduled maintenance works at the Weija Water Treatment Plant.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) announced that the plant will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow for critical maintenance aimed at improving service delivery, particularly ahead of the Christmas festivities.

According to the company, water production and distribution will resume immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.

Affected areas include Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe and adjoining communities.

GWCL assured customers that adequate resources and logistics have been mobilised, with technical teams working to complete the exercise within the scheduled timeframe.

Managing Director of GWCL, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, said the maintenance is essential to sustaining the integrity of the company’s water infrastructure and enhancing reliable supply.

Customers have been advised to store enough water ahead of the shutdown to minimise inconvenience.

GWCL apologised for the disruption and appealed for public cooperation as it works to improve water service delivery across the capital.
