Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, describing him as a generous, warm-hearted, and principled statesman who served as a strong pillar for both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the nation.

Reflecting on their years together, he recalled how Aliu Mahama’s home often became a place of comfort and rest after long and demanding campaign tours.

Speaking at the 14th Commemorative Adu’a in honour of the late Vice President, the former President described Aliu Mahama’s death on November 16, 2012, at age 66, as a painful loss that continues to evoke deep sorrow.

“He was an exceptionally generous and hospitable host. A truly honourable and respectable man. A man of great integrity who worked tirelessly for our country. His passing remains a source of profound sadness to me. He left far too soon, but that was the will of God,” he said.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also paid tribute, recalling the fatherly guidance, kindness, and unwavering support Aliu Mahama offered him over the years.

“He used to visit my late father frequently when he was a university student studying engineering. He came home often, and later, when he became Managing Director of the State Construction Corporation in Tamale, I always looked forward to his visits because he never left without giving some money,” Dr. Bawumia recounted.
