Ahafo gets public employment centre to tackle youth unemployment

An ultra-modern Public Employment Centre (PEC) has been inaugurated in Goaso in the Ahafo Region, marking a major step toward easing youth unemployment in the area.

The ceremony brought together representatives from the Goaso Traditional Council, the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, GIZ and the Labour Office.

Speaking at the event, Andreas Berding, Head of the Ghanaian-European Centre (GEC) for Jobs, Migration and Development, said unemployment among young people in the region remains a deep concern.

He explained that the new facility is the result of joint efforts by the European Union, the German Development Cooperation and the Government of Ghana to give young people better access to employment guidance and opportunities.

Berding noted that under the Jobs, Migration and Development programme, five regions are expected to benefit.

So far, three Public Employment Centres have been rebuilt and 11 more have undergone renovation.

The Acting Chief Labour Officer, Dawuda Ibrahim Braimah, urged staff of the Labour Department to make full use of the centre to support job seekers.

He further encouraged young people in the municipality to take advantage of the services available, adding that government efforts to tackle youth unemployment are being strengthened.
