The Luckiest donates essential hospital management items to KATH

The Luckiest, a brand initiative under the National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana, has extended a generous hand to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with a donation of essential hospital management items to support patient care and hygiene.

The prominent referral hospital, which serves patients from across the country, continues to face significant challenges in managing the high turnover of patients and maintaining adequate supplies.

The donation included mattresses, gloves, bed sheets, uniforms, and toiletries to improve patient comfort and infection prevention.

Acting Director of Nursing Services at KATH, Madam Gifty Nkoom, expressed appreciation for the timely intervention, emphasizing that the hospital was in dire need of such items.

According to Mrs. Nkoom, although the government continues to support the hospital, the high patient load often stretches available resources.

“The presentation came at the appropriate time that the hospital needed these items because of the infection prevention, where everything the patient used has to be taken to the laundry once they’re discharged,” she explained.

She further noted the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards to prevent infections among discharged patients.

“As we are providing health services to our patients, we also make sure they don’t go home with other infections that we’d call nosocomial infections which the patients come and take from the hospital. And so, these items will help in a very long way so that we’re able to improve on our infection prevention control too,” she said.

Mrs. Nkoom assured that the hospital would ensure every patient benefits from the donated items, particularly through regular changeovers of bed sheets and improved sanitation.

Highlighting the hospital’s wide reach, she added, “Komfo Anokye finds itself in a location where we’re receiving referrals from 12 regions out of the 16 regions, so when we get such donations, it’s a big relief to us and it will also improve our service.”

The Brand Ambassador for The Luckiest, Mickey Osei Berko, said the presentation marked the beginning of a long-term partnership with KATH.

“Coming to Kumasi was on our heart to support Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital because we know that it is the biggest here, and a lot of help is needed here,” he noted.

He added that the brand intends to continue supporting the hospital and other institutions as part of its corporate social responsibility.

“For what we do, we affect lives, we improve lives and also as part of our corporate social responsibility, we’re extending this to people here who might not directly be able to participate in the opportunity that The Luckiest brings, so we have to support them in a way,” he stated.

Beyond the over GH₵50,000 worth of hospital supplies donated, The Luckiest aims to continue spreading wealth and opportunities among Ghanaians while extending tangible support to healthcare institutions and communities in need.
