World Vision commissions eighth water and sanitation project in Oti Region

-

World Vision Ghana has commissioned new water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities in the Krachi West Municipality and Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region, reinforcing its commitment to improving community health and development.

The newly inaugurated facilities include eight-seater toilets, solar-powered water systems, standpipes, and taps across eight beneficiary communities: Boafri, Worenja, Bitim, Borae-Nkwanta, Korkorse, and Kradenteh in Krachi Nchumuru, as well as Sabaja and Nkyenekyene in Krachi West.

Speaking at the event, Irvine Aboagye, Southern Regional Operations Manager of World Vision, said the solar-powered systems will provide safe water to over 27,900 people, including schoolchildren. He highlighted that the initiative would help families save time previously spent traveling long distances to access clean water.

Mr. Aboagye emphasized the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which seeks to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all, noting that achieving this goal is crucial to the success of many other SDGs.

He urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership and maintain the facilities to ensure their sustainability.

Robel Wamisho, Associate WASH Director at World Vision, echoed the appeal, calling on chiefs and community leaders to safeguard the facilities for future generations. He assured residents that the water systems were constructed using high-quality, stainless-steel materials free of harmful chemicals.

The project is part of World Vision’s broader initiatives in the Oti Region, which include the Reading Improvement and Skills Enhancement (RISE) program, community sponsorship projects, and the Healthy Environment and Wellness (HEAL) program — all aimed at improving living standards and promoting the well-being of children.
