OSP seizes over GH¢100m in assets linked to NPA corruption case

-

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed the seizure and freezing of assets worth over GH¢100 million and US$100,000 in connection with the ongoing prosecution of former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid and nine others.

The seized assets include multiple real estate properties, fuel stations, and logistics vehicles such as SINOTRUK fuel tankers and articulated trucks.

The court has so far confirmed five of the fuel tankers, while several other vehicles, residential, and commercial properties across Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale await judicial validation.

Among the properties pending confirmation are Kings Energy Filling Stations at Millennium City, Lapaz, Opeikuma, and Dansoman; luxury apartments in East Legon, Roman Ridge, and Airport Residential; and undeveloped lands in North Legon, Adenta, and Tema. A Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 and several plots in Tema West have also been frozen.

The OSP explained that the actions are part of its mandate under the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), aimed at preserving suspected proceeds of corruption pending the High Court’s final determination.

“The freezing and seizure orders are necessary to prevent concealment or dissipation of assets believed to be tainted by corruption-related offences,” the OSP stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to trace additional assets linked to the alleged GH¢291 million extortion, abuse of office, and money laundering scheme.

The case involving Dr. Hamid and others is set to resume in the Criminal High Court on November 13, 2025.
